Kitchen Chef is a free-to-use app with optional Premium subscriptions. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we use it.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:
- Photos you submit – Images you take or select from your gallery are sent to the Anthropic Claude API for ingredient detection and recipe generation. Photos are not stored on our servers.
- Usage data – We store your daily analysis count locally on your device to enforce the free-tier limit. This data never leaves your device.
- Favourite recipes & shopping list – Stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. We have no access to this data.
- Weekly meal plan – Generated on demand and stored locally on your device.
- Language preference – Stored locally on your device.
- Purchase status – We verify active subscriptions via Google Play Billing. No payment details are processed or stored by us.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To analyse food photos and suggest recipes using AI.
- To enforce the daily free-tier analysis limit.
- To restore your Premium subscription across devices.
- To display relevant advertisements to free-tier users via Google AdMob.
3. Third-Party Services
Kitchen Chef uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Anthropic Claude API – Processes food photos to detect ingredients and generate recipes. Images are sent securely and are not retained. Anthropic Privacy Policy →

4. Data Storage & Security
All personal data (favourites, history, usage count, language preference) is stored locally on your device and may be backed up to your Google account via Android Auto Backup. We do not operate servers that store your personal data.
Photos sent to the Anthropic API are transmitted over HTTPS and are not retained after the recipe response is returned.
5. Children's Privacy
Kitchen Chef is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
6. Your Rights
Since all your data is stored locally on your device, you can delete it at any time by:
- Clearing the app's data via Android Settings → Apps → Kitchen Chef → Clear Data.
- Uninstalling the application.
For AdMob personalised ads, you can opt out in your device's Google Settings → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalisation.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
